Greater Black Backed Gull
A predator, the Greater Black Backed Gull depends largely on other seabirds during the breeding season .

 Bird SilhouetteNever numerous, this predatory gull pays close attendance to other seabird colonies.

Small numbers breed at several properties, though never more that 100 pairs.

Food: Wide variety of food, voracious predator, scavenger and food pirate.  Kills birds such as Manx Shearwater at night on Shearwater colonies.

Nest Site: Small islands and islets, tops of sea stacks. Mound of seaweed and other vegetation.

Breeding: Mid April to mid June where they 2-3 eggs.

Wintering: Resident in the UK.

Distribution: UK, southern Ireland, Faeroes, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia.
