The remainder of the island was re-baited and the next monitoring and bait checks (10th) were begun. Monitoring stations were also checked during this re-baiting period, but many stations continue to be affected by cattle, sheep or birds.
The tenth bait check will be completed by the end of the coming week and then intensive monitoring will be focused on for the following week to ten days, including increasing the monitoring grid if required. No days were lost to bad weather. Candles, soaps and chewsticks were cut and drilled during evenings.
Biz Bell and Paul Garner-Richards left for Rum on Saturday 21st January to give advice on both the rat and shearwater aspect of the proposed monitoring project for Manx Shearwaters there.
