STATUS REPORT 19

Monday 23rd January to Sunday 29th January 2006

         WMIL

The tenth bait check was completed and there was no bait take by rats. A dead rat was found in Tarbert Barn by Gerry. Intensive monitoring has begun with the first round nearly completed (due to be completed on Tuesday 31st January). As usual monitoring stations continue to be affected by cattle, sheep or birds. Some extra areas had additional monitoring lines put in. Access to difficult areas, rock stacks and offshore islets was obtained this week, during a period of very settled weather. Each of these sites was visited twice during this week. Monitoring stations were also been placed at each of these sites during the first visit, with no rat sign detected on the second visit.

No days were lost to bad weather. Candles and chewsticks were cut and drilled during evenings. The team helped celebrate Burn’s Day at the school. The Canna Seabird Recovery Steering Group had a meeting on Wednesday 25th January, which Biz and Dave attended via a phone-link.

Biz and Paul returned from Rum on Tuesday 24th January.
