STATUS REPORT 26

Monday 13th March to Sunday 19th March 2006

            WMIL

With the exception of a second check on the western cliffs, two full monitoring checks have been completed this week. No rat sign was detected. Traps and tracking pads that have been placed in areas of previous rat sign have not caught any rats or shown any rat sign. Removal of the monitoring stations has begun.

Martin Carty continued with the sea eagle monitoring. He updates the project team with information on the birds, in particular the location of activity and behaviour of both pairs as well as other raptor species. The team is avoiding areas where eagles are attempting to nest.

The Canna House sheds were tidied and almost all glass bottles were removed. These were taken off the island on the Spannish John on Thursday 16th March, for recycling by Highland council, on the mainland. The used bait was also removed from the island on the Spanish John, for disposal at a licensed site on the mainland. Tarbert Barn was dug out for Gerry.

All remaining new bait and equipment has been sorted and any items no longer required are being stored on the mezzanine floor of the main implement shed. No days were lost to bad weather.
