Populations of seabirds on Mingulay and Berneray have not been regularly monitored in the past. Surveys have been carried out in the late 1980s and again in 2003. These appear to show increases in populations of most species, particularly Razorbills and Common Guillemots.
A repeat census was carried out in 2006 and showed declines in several species. The kittiwakes, in particular, had declined by 37%. Details can be found by clicking on the icon to the right:
A further study, in 2008, identified plots suitable for long-term seabird monitoring on the island.
